Geroge was born in Knaresborough, and with a lot of speculation I think I can work out the reason why the family ended up in London.

Fact 1: I'm unsure how long coach building has been in the family but I think for some time. George had a brother William (Christened 23 Sept. 1774 Knaresborough). who went to London to either learn the family trade of coach making or take over the Burnand business there in Old Bond Street, London. he became bankrupt 1807 (The Athenaeum; January to June 1807 page 666).

Fact 2: George Cooper Burnand and William Henry Burnand (Born about 1797) were brothers and in partnership in coach making in London. This partnership was dissolved 1835.

Fact 3: In 1837 Wiiliam Henry Burnand in a court case of the Old Bailey said he had "resided in the New-road very nearly thirty years, and have carried on the business of a coach maker the whole time". This suggests that he arrived London 1807/8. He would then have been aged 10 or 11.

Did William Henry and George Cooper's father send his sons to their uncle William to learn the family trade (William Henry aged 10; George Cooper aged 14), or did George come to London with whole family because his brother William had gone bankrupt and therefore someone needed to carry on the business?
