MARRIAGE: Married Ellen Louisa SEARLE on 3rd July 1883 at Norley Chapel Plymouth. He is shown as deceased on his son Leonard's marriage cert in 1911. At the time of his marriage he was an outfitter working at 39 Union Street Plymouth ( building still there). [I think the shop may have been Sweets, quite a large store]. The marriage is recorded in the GRO indexes for the Plymouth Registration District in the September quarter of 1883 under reference 5b 449.

John and Ellen had 5 Children (1901 census): ANNIE 17, JAMES 13, LEONARD 10, REGGIE 7, and MILLICENT 1. On John's marriage cert in 1883 it records his father as a meat salesman, not far short of a butcher! They were living in Union Street, Plymouth by then, and John was an outfitter.
His last address 21 Ebrington Street, the UNITY INN, which is still there as a pub (in 2010), and he was landlord until 1903 and then Ellen took over the licence.
