MIGRATION: Emigrated to the United States in 1869.

They moved from New Jersey to Nevada in 1873. The following entry appeared in REESE RIVER REVALLE (Newspaper for Austin, Nevada), on 30 October 1876.

DEATH: Monday 30 October 1876:
A very sad incident occurred in this day on Saturday night last. It seems that William Argall entered his house in Upper Austin slightly intoxicated, and commenced an assault on his wife in the presence of his son, John, who was at the time trimming his nails with a pocket knife. The old man attempted to strike the old woman with a bottle when the boy jumped up and stepped between them. The mother immediately leaving the house uninjured. The father then assaulted the boy with a bottle which he threw at him, and fortunately for the boy the man missed his mark and the bottle was broken into atoms on the wall. The father then grabbed the son by the throat and in the scuffle received a cut from the pocked knife in the son's hands. Drs Wixom and Huntman were called, and did everything they could to save the wounded man's life, but to no purpose. William Argall died this morning at about 10 o'clock. This is to be regretted, and a general verdict seems to be, undoubtedly in favor of the boy, John Argall. And we understand that even the deceased said to those around him that his son did not cut him intentionally, but that it was purely accidental. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Church.

DEATH: Death certificate records he died on 30 October in Austin, a native of Cornwall, England aged 49 years, 5 months and 16 days. The source of the data below is from Northeastern Nevada Cemetery and Obituary Records Argall, William - Austin - Cornwall.

Gravestone reads:
In memory of William Argall/ A native of Cornwall/ DIED/ Oct 15th 1876/ Aged 51 years/ Erected by his beloved wife.
THIS CONTRADICTS THE OBITUARY WHICH STATES HE DIED ON October 30th.

The CORNISH IN LATIN AMERICA Site lists a William Argall, aged 37, dying in New York on his way back from Bolivia where he had been to report on a gold-mining region. Denver county, Colorado, records his death date as occuring on 25 June 1897.

Paper: Denver Rocky Mountain News (Denver, Colorado) Page: 1 Sunday, June 27, 1897:

Mining Engineer William Argall, Dies at Quaranr=tine New York.

Contracting Yellow Jack Returning from Bolivian Gold Field.

He graduated ewith Highest Honors from an English University and had experience as an Expert in African, American and Australian Mines.

William Argall, a young mining engineer in this city, died at Quarentine Station in New York HarborFriday of yellow fever contracted on his way home from Bolivia.
Mr Argall was 37 years of age and a mining engineer of wide reputation in this country and Australia where he spent eight years with some of the most prominent mining concerns. Argall was attacked with yellow fever on board the steamer Finance on the vaoyage from Panama to New York. The steamer arrived June 22nd.
Philip Argall, nanager of the Metallic Extraction Company, Florence, Colo. who resides at 2700 Humboldt street, is a brother of the deceased. Immediately up on arrival of the sick man he was notified of the fact. Several friends of the family in New York were despatched to his aid. Thursday night word came from the health officer at Quarantine that Argall was better and hopes of his recovery were entertained, so the news of his death the following morning was a shock to his relatives,

Skilled Mining Engineer.
Argall was born in County Wicklow, Ireland. He emigrated to this country five years ago, having graduated witrh the highest honors in mining engineering at one of the great English Universities. He operated extensivelyin all the big gold mining districts of the vworld includingCalifornia and the Transvaal. For a year prior to his departure to Bolivia he was residing with his brother in this city. When the Bolivian gold fever broke out in Denver last January, Argall was one of the first to become possessed of the idea of visiting the country and seeing for himselfif things were as represented. Argall's ability as an expertbeing known to David H Moffatt, Eben Smith and other local mining promoters, he was engaged to go to Bolivia in January. His brother only received one letter from him. It was dated Tipiuant, Bolivia, April 24th. He had been there two weeks and already talked of returning home expecting to reach here, he said, in July.
In this letter he said there was plenty of the yellow metal to be found throughout the country, but that it was no postman's land but couyld only be deveoped successfully with an immense outlay of capital. he added that the entire gold region was inaccessible and it was worth a man's life to travel any distance inlkand, owing to the dangerous conditions of trails and bridges and the precipitious hills and mountains. Another serious menace was the scarcity of food, the little that was obtainable being unfit for civilized people. Dry mutton was about the only edible of any account and this was high in price and of inferior quality.

His Report Not Filed.
Argall did not leave here with Ed S. Wilson, William Armstrong and J. H. Travers, but was joined by them in Nerw Orleans, from which point they sailed, although he was not connected with the syndicate or parties they represented. Argall's report on the country has not been filed and is believed to have been in his possession when he died. Just what it contains may never be known as the quarantine authoritiesmay have to destroy all his effects because of the danger of infection. It was said by a friend of Argall yesterday that the young engineeer was to have receiced a permanent position by the local operators by whom he was sent, in case the report was favorable and they decided to invest. Argall was always deeply interested in making discoveriesin remote mineral sections, and it is said of him that he had planned to go to Bolivia on his own responsibility to ascertain the true styate of affairs for the benefit of the public at large.
The yellow fever broke out on the Finance a few days after sailing from Panama.
