James Henry Vingoe was originally a gardener but went to Calumet, Michigan as a miner. (This might explain the absence of children in the early years of marriage. They later had at least four children).

MIGRATION: He travelled several times to Calumet and Hecla mines in Upper Peninsula ; Michigan. He can be found on trips between 1900 -1904 passing through Ellis Island. He took a voyage on board the S.S. New York which left Southampton on the 28th April 1900. James is listed as No 10 on the list amongst a group of Cornish miners who all state that they are going to stay with their Cousin James Glasson!
