LAKE PLACID NEWS, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 1951. Bloomingdale Man Dies on Visit Here. William Vassar, So, a resident of Bloomingdale and a retired boat builder and cabinet maker, died suddenly at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at the home of his brother, Antoine, in Lake Placid, of coronary thrombosis. Mr. Vassar, who had gone to visit his brother on Friday, was stricken shortly after lunch Saturday. He was born in Black Brook in February 1806, the son of Lawrence and Jane Vassar, and until the time of his death was in good health. At one time he had his workshop adjacent to the town hall in Bloomingdale, and his fame as a boat builder and cabinet maker was known thruout the North country. Besides his brother, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jessie Jane Brown of Bloomingdale, with whom he had 'been making his home for the past 20 years. Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Fortune Funeral Chapel in -Saranac Lake, with the Rev. Sidney T. Ruck of Lake Placid officiating. Burial was in Brook- side cemetery in Bloomingdale.

Lake Placid News FRIDAY NOVEMBER 5, 1926. DEAD BODY OF HENRY VASSAR FOUND IN BROOK la Outlet of Mirror Lake Sunday Morning- He had a cut on Head - Last Seen Alive Sat. Evening. Lying in the brook which forms the outlet of Mirror lake, the lifeless body of Henry Vassar, 54, well-known resident of Lake Placid for nearly his entire life, was discovered by Henry French just before noon Sunday near the John Crossett house. Mr. Vassar's body gave no signs of violence other than a -deep gash and a bruise on the head which, it was believed, was caused by Iris slipping and striking his knead on one of the stones in the Brook. Knocked senseless 'Mr. Vassar is thought to have drowned. The bedy was removed from its watery resting place by Chief of Police Thomas Black and Peter Smith. A coroner's inquest was MAlfred Vassar of Tuscola,Ill.

LAKE PLACID NEWS, FRIDAY, MARCH 8,1940- PAGE FOUR Mother of Local Woman Dies in Forks. Mrs Elizabeth Sheffield died Friday at the home of her son Sidney Sheffield in Ausable Forks. Elizabeth (Vassar) Sheffield was born in Chesterfield on November 3, 1856, the daughter of Lawrence aad Jane Ballizel Vassar. She moved to Black Brook when young and had been a lifelong resident there. She was married to Arthor Sheffield of Black Brook who died in 1914. Mrs. Sheffield is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Roxie Wilkins of Lake Placid; three sons, Sidney, William and Roy Siefield of Black Brook; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Sawyer of Lake Placid; four brothers, Charles Vassar of Iron River, Mick, Antoine Vassar of Lake Placid, William Vassar of Bloomingdale and Jesse Vassar of Florence, Wis. Funeral services were held 'Tuesday morning at Holy Name church with a solemn mass of requiem celebrated by Rev. Patrick O'Connor, with Rev. Doyle as deacon and Rev. J. J. Kelly as sub-deacon. Interment was in St. Matthew's cemetery at Black Brook.

Antoine Vassar, 84, of Lake Placid, passed away at Placid Memorial Hospital Wednesday night of last week. Mr. Vassar lived in Au Sable Forks for some time about 1910. Mr: Vassar was born in Black Brook November 8 1869 the son of Lawrence and Jane Vassar. His deceased wife was the former Exilda Lefebvre daughter of the late mr and mrs Maxim Lefebvre of AuSable Forks. surviving are two daughters Mrs florence Borden and Mrs Gene Guzzy both of Lake Placid and one son Gilbert also of Lake Placid . Several grand children and great grand children also survive. funeral services were held at St Agnes Church Friday morning Burial was in St Agnes Cemetery.
