Second marriage: He married for a second time around 1870. The record of this marriage is yet to be found, but it is inferred from the birth of many children in which he is referred, along with the mother - Margarita Varas.

He was noted as a mining captain.

Carrizal (pronounced Carrithal) was a settlement in Chile's Norte Chico, Province of Copiapó, founded on the mining of copper. It is several hundred kilometres north from the capital, Santiago. It might be found marked on a modern map, sandwiched inland between Copiapó and Huasco, once both important ports which handled much of the copper which was mined in the vicinity. This part of Chile is very arid, with the exception of one or two green and fertile river valleys.

In his father's Will dated 5th September 1854 he was given £5; his location was shown as 'of CHILI' (Chile).

He began his career with an annuity of £10 from his father. After the death of his elder brother, Thomas, he received the estates of the main branch of his family, including the residence at East Sutton. He then lived in the Manor of East Sutton, Kent, until he sold it in 1610 to Edward Filmer (#97), when he moved to the parish of St Mary Magdalen, Colchester, Essex. John Argall, was lord of the manor of East Sutton, and he soon becoming indebted to his brother in law (Edward Filmer), and was compelled to sell him the manor. An interesting group of letters about these negotiations will be found in C1.

In Colchester, he owned property including Wyndmilfield S Tenement ( Will of Wm Talcott - Essex RO D/DU 487 (Acc. 3586). FILE - Grant of yearly rent of £20 from manor of East Sutton, for life - ref. Held 4 Shares in brother Samuel Argall's Virginia Plantation. He also sold the Manor of Walthamstow Bedyk to Sir Samuel Argall in 1623. He was a beneficiary in the Wills of three of his brothers (Thomas - Record 28; Richard - Record 29 and Sir Samuel - Record 36), and also of his sister Elizabeth - in 1638 she left to "My brother, JOHN ARGALL, ESQ. a gold ring".

Lived the life of a Country Gentleman. Appointed Legatee in the Will of Sir John Scott (Record 155) of whom he was a cousin. Was Executor of Sir Samuel Argall's Will. On 7 August 1626, as Marshal of the Duke of Buckingham's Regiment, he petitioned for arrears of pay. Argall John L and William TAYLCOTT 7071631 Colchester (entry - assumed that he either sold land or bought land in 1631 from TAYLCOTT).

At the Visitation of (Essex) in 1634 was living at Much Baddow (now Great Baddow) in Essex, where he was one of the Justices of the Peace for the County. The Genealogical Society of Utah's Ancestral File suggests he was born in 1586 (reference AFN:MJJC-VD) but this is likely to be proved as untrue. At the visitation of Essex in 1634, he had a family of four sons and two daughters.

BURIAL: Burial is recorded In Great Baddow Parish Registers; death assumed 2 days before.

PROBATE: Kent Archives Office (U120/T201/16) signed on 12 Aug 1639 and proved on 3 Oct 1643. Mentioned in his sister's (Elizabeth Argall) Will in 1638.

In the 1851 UK Census, he is recorded as John Argall, a manganese miner aged 50, born Redruth, Cornwall. He is living in Tinney, Lifton with his wife Elizabeth (#2315), son James (#2319) and daughters Susanna (#2281) and Mary (#2323). (HO107/1884, Folio 228, Page 13).

GENERAL NOTES: Church of England.

BIRTH: Census and other information makes his date of birth confusing. All range his birth between 1798 and 1804.

BAPTISM: Baptism is recorded in Perranzabuloe Parish records (BTs). (Perranzabuloe registers for 1800 are all destroyed, however, the BTs at Exeter reveals that John was actually baptised at St Agnes). [St Agnes was a Chapelry of Perranzabuloe until 1846. There are separate registers back to 1653. The present Church at Perranzabuloe was built in 1804 because of the encroachment of the sands had destroyed its predecessor. Each new Church was built further inland. Perranzabuloe baptisms took place at St Agnes from 8 Jul 1804 until 20 Jun 1805]. Clearly building work was in progress at the time of John's baptism).
