OBITUARY: Mineral Point Tribune, April 14, 1921:

Good Woman at Rest.
Martha S. Mitchell, nee Martha S. Thomas, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Thomas, was born at Mineral Point August 29, 1853 and died at her home in this city April 7, 1921. She was married to Edward Mitchell on January 1, 1871. Ten children were born of this union, four of them and the husband preceding her in death. Three daughters remain, Mrs. Lillie Porter, Mrs. Mary Williams, and
Mrs. Herman Hack; also three sons, Joseph, John and Elmer, besides many near-relatives and friends, who mourn her loss.
The first 4 years of Mrs. Mitchell's married life were spent in Linden. All the rest of her life, with the exception of three years in California, was lived in Mineral Point. She joined the Methodist Episcopal church when a girl of 12 years and remained a steadfast and loyal member. In recent years she literally lived with her bible and amid pain and sickness rested in peace and confidence in her
Lord.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. Birrell. The Rebekahs read their service at the house. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.
