OBITUARY:

Birth: Jul. 10, 1893
North Dakota, USA Death: Dec. 13, 1948

Daniel Thomas Peart, principal of the 11-Mile Corner schools, died Monday at 5:45 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix at the age of 55.

Mr. Peart had been a resident of Casa Grande since he was 13 and was active in many local organizations and served as Mayor of Casa Grande in 1924.

He was born in Woods, North Dakota, July 10, 1893, and moved to Casa Grande in 1906 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson Rodney Peart. He attended Casa Grande schools and graduated in 1912 from the Arizona State College at Tempe.

Mr. Peart was a veteran of the First World War, being one of the first to volunteer to join the Army after war was declared. In April 1917 he joined the same regiment of which his brother, R. H. Peart, was already a member, and that December he was one of 12 sergeants to be selected for direct promotion from the ranks to Second Lieutenant.

He went overseas in August, and was promoted to First Lieutenant in France and returned with his regiment to the States in mid-1919.

Upon his return to Casa Grande, he entered the real estate business with his father, who was one of the early real estate operators in Casa Grande. He taught in the Casa Grande schools for ten years, and for the past six years has been principal of the 11-Mile Corner schools.

He was a charter member of the Lions Club here, and a Past Master in the Masonic Lodge. He was married to Miss Garnita Freeman, March 24, 1922, at Phoenix.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Elias Jones officiating. Jack Hamilton will sing at the services. Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery, with Masonic services at the grave, conducted by the Pinal Masonic Lodge Number 30.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Garnita Freeman Peart; three daughters, Mrs. Danna Jean Owens, Audrey Carrol and Sharon Garnita; two sons, Kenneth Freeman and Donald Rodney; his mother, Mrs. Lillian Peart; a sister, Mrs. Alice Westmoreland; and three grandchildren.
