DEATH: He died in Madison City, Dane county, Wisconsin, on 26 April 1978

OBITUARY: 1878 New York Times - Leander Darling:

News was received at the Produce Exchange yesterday of the death at Madison, Wisconsin, of Mr Leander Darling, an old and respected member of the Exchange. Mr Darling was born in Madison county in this State, 58 years ago. He came to New-York whilst still yet a young man, and in 1847 he was one of the founders of the firm Darling, Albertson & Rose, in Pearl-street, near the Produce Exchange, who afterward became the largest receivers of flour in this City, and did enormous business. They met with disasterour reverses about 10 years ago, and were complelled to go into liquidation. Mr Rose died, Mr Albertson gave up, but Mr Darling continued in a small way at the old office, and subsequently at No. 45 Front-street until about a year ago, when his failing health compelled him to retire. About four years ago he fell from a railroad train and received severe injuries, from which he never fully recovered. He had gone to Wisconsin for his health, but it was not thought that his illness was of an imminently dangerous character, so that his death was somewhat unexpected. He resided at No. 59 St Mark's Place, and leaves a wife and child. His remains will be brought to this City. The Produce Exchange has thuis lost three of its most prominent members, all four merchants, on successive days of last week - Mr Frederick Grote, on Thursday; Mr Darling on Friday, and Mr Stephen Valentine, on Saturday.
